Video Game Industry Opportunities

Creating video game characters may be one of the most difficult things to do in a computer game. The reason is that it will easily attract the players. If they are not able to identify the characters easily, the game won't become a hit. And if it doesn't become a hit, game developers will find themselves without a job.

That's why game development is a very hard task. You may have great graphics, a lot of propaganda, a great package and a superb manual. But if you don't have good characters and an intriguing plot, your product wont be a success.

Is Game Development Something Like A Movie?

The simple answer is yes. But the reasons are little more complicated. In the past, game developers could make all of the work by themselves. Old PC gaming designers like Roberta & Ken Williams and Richard Garriott made all of the programming for games besides sales and marketing.

When games became more complicated, they required a staff for the whole gaming development process. Today, developing a game can take three years. Now, a game requires a producer for checking if everything is ok, one game designer, artist, writers, programmers, level designers, sound specialists and testers.

Developing a game requires 15 or more people, depending on your budget and complexities. Considering that a movies has producers, artists and writers, where is the difference? Actually, as games have become more complex, the difference is getting smaller.

As a matter of fact, there are some movies and TV series that are starting to complement computer games and viceversa. For example, if you play the game Enter the Matrix, you will be able to understand the three movies and the Animatrix series. And, if you play the Jedi Knight games you will know more about the Star Wars Universe. That doesn't mean that developers are getting out of game ideas. They are looking for new ways of generating revenue.

There are game developers who prefer the stability of consoles, other's prefer the wide variety of choices that the PC offers. As you can see, it is a matter of your experience as a gamer and your professional experience in the gaming industry.

And what happens with gamers? Is a PC game better than a console game? Many people say that PC games are more immersive, while console games are plain, dumb shooters without good video game characters. On the other hand, console gamers say that PC games are lame, boring and too expensive since you need to update your hardware constantly.

PC gamers like their games because it isn't only the gaming experience, it's also the technical aspect of computers. While you can't open your console, you can open your computer and add or remove the hardware you choose. Although all of this costs a lot of money, any die-hard fan will pay the price for maintaining his computer updated. On the other hand, console gamers prefer their games because their devices are cheaper and the graphics are great. At the end, it is a matter of taste
